Mathematics is a Key Learning Area (KLA) for all students from Kindergarten to Year 10.
The study of Mathematics is more than just solving numerical questions, it also presents real life, mathematical challenges and problems for students. As part of their studies, students develop an ability to understand and notice patterns and relationships. Through this ability, students learn the skills to reason and explain why things occur and happen. Consequently, they can creatively come up with original solutions for a problem and communicate their final solution with logical and sound reasoning and evidence.
By studying mathematics students will not only learn the historical and cultural growth that has shaped mathematics, but they will also learn how it continues to grow in the 21st century.
The strands of Mathematics are:
- Number & Algebra
- Measurement & Geometry
- Statistics and Probability
Courses:
- Mathematics Years 7 – 10
- Mathematics Advanced - Year 11 & 12
- Mathematics Extension I – Year 11 & 12
- Mathematics Extension 2 – Year 12
- Mathematics Standard – Year 11
- Mathematics Standard 2 – Year 12
- Mathematics Standard 1 – Year 12 (Non-ATAR, with optional HSC examination)
