Eight Marrickville High School students participated in a Leadership Masterclass coordinated by The Academy at Western Sydney University.
The Academy is a program that challenges young people to think differently, uncover their passions, cultivate their leadership skills and become engaged and informed members of their community as citizen scholars.
The Leadership Masterclass provided students with activities focused on:
- critical thinking
- collaboration
- project-based learning.
They explored issues in their schools and local communities related to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including gender equality, zero hunger, access to clean water and environmental management.
Students were divided into groups and had to develop a pitch for their planned initiative to address particular issues.
Our zero hunger student group - Oscar, Shahil, Anna and Daniel - were awarded the "People's Choice" by their peers for their passionate and informed pitch for support of the Exodus Foundation's Loaves and Fishes restaurant that feeds over 300 people in the inner-west each day.
The students enjoyed spending the day at the Western Sydney University Parramatta campus meeting and collaborating with other like-minded students.
