Marrickville Girls Get Active

Marrickville High School girls get active

Some of our Stage 4 girls spent the day with, learnt from and played with talented athletes from lacrosse, football, rugby league, softball, gridiron and orienteering at the Girls Get Active Day organised by Inner West Council in partnership with Sports NSW.

Included in the day were athlete stories of inspiration, a Q&A panel of “ask me anything”, a nutrition talk and skills sessions to try out their different sports. Our girls learnt that participating in sport is not just part of a healthy lifestyle but offers real career opportunities.

The six athletes were:

- Bec Putna from the Australian an NSW Wombats Lacrosse team
- Jada Whyman from the Western Sydney Wanderers and Young Matildas
- Janine Jamieson an international and West Tigers rugby league player
- Jorja Barrett a NSW and Australian softball player about to commence a US college scholarship
- Stacey Speers skateboarding coach and Australian Gridiron international player
- Tracy Marsh Australian Orienteering Champion and was ranked 13th in the world.

Pictured are our students with stars (L-R) Tracy Marsh, Bec Putna, Jorja Barrett and Jada Whyman. Plus our fantastic PDHPE teachers Alex Baker and Mardi Crammond.

Marrickville High girls attended the inaugural event last year and will be back again next year, celebrating International Women’s Day!
