Marrickville High School's transition program is specifically created to support and foster the needs of your child as they journey into High School. In-class and co-curricular activities have been designed to ensure students feel comfortable in their new school environment and are provided with skills and knowledge to enhance their overall educational experience.
Marrickville is committed to the establishment and maintenance of strong links with the surrounding local primary schools, which has allowed for efficiency in communication between the primary and secondary realms. In addition to this, during the first two weeks of your child's time at high school emphasis is placed on their individual educational needs, through various literacy and numeracy tests and orientation activities, such as making new friends, using the school timetable and diary, and getting used to the changes at High school. In this way the staff at Marrickville develop an enlightened understanding of your child's educational background, as well as the nature of how they learn and can support them accordingly.
As your child begins their exciting adventure into high school we are committed to ensuring your child is supported every step of the way. Year 7 students are encouraged to attend our weekly Homework Centre, where qualified staff are available to assist them in all aspects of their learning.
We work closely with our network of local primary schools to make the transition to high school as seamless as possible for our youngest students.
