The Library's focus is for all students to gain skills to become effective users of information.
During library lessons in Years 7-8, students cover the stages of the Information Process with emphasis on:
- Accessing and locating resources using Oliver, our online Library Catalogue
- Searching using keyword and subject searches and power searches
- Evaluating websites
- Organising information
- Writing bibliographies and in-text referencing
- Avoiding plagiarism
Wide reading program
Each week students have wide reading time in the library so that the Teacher Librarian can tailor reading material to “hook” reluctant readers or widen the reading choices of already active readers. Students are also taught how to write effective book reviews which are then uploaded to Oliver
Word flyers
All students in years 7-9 spend time on this self-paced program to enhance their literacy skills. It can be tailored to individual needs and covers the basics of spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, comprehension and writing skills. As the program is online, students can also access the program from home for extra practice.
