About our school

We are a comprehensive, co-educational, inclusive high school that serves a diverse community of students. We nurture and empower our students through a range of opportunities to achieve their personal best and to be active global citizens. In addition to meeting the needs of local students, we are fortunate to have both a Support Unit that caters for students with Autism and those with Intellectual Disabilities, as well as an Intensive English Centre (IEC) that caters for local and international students to develop their English proficiency. Through innovative teaching practices and a student-centered approach, we cultivate critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and resilience, preparing students to thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Marrickville High School HSC results among the Most Improved Growth in the State

Marrickville High School's ongoing excellence in HSC results saw us ranked in the top 24 schools in the State for growth in the Top 2 Bands (Band 5 and Band 6) in the 2024 HSC. This was formally recognised by the Deputy Premier and Minister for Education and Early Learning Prue Car and the Secretary of the NSW DoE Murat Dizdar. This follows on from our placement in the top 14 schools in the 2023 HSC for growth across the Top 3 Bands (Band 4, Band, Band 6), which was similarly acknowledged at State Government level.

The NSW Department of Education has recognised 14 metro and 10 regional and rural public high schools for high growth in their 2024 HSC results from across 452 public high schools that each year guide 42,000 Year 12 students through to the HSC.

Schools were identified for demonstrating consistent growth over seven years and an increase in the number of students who achieved in the higher bands of the HSC. The schools also demonstrated positive progress for students across other achievement bands.

Marrickville High School has an incredibly skilled teachers who understand the nuanced nature of learning across HSC courses. We recognise that every student is capable of growth and that is reflected in the significant number of Band 5 and 6 results as well as the elimination of results in the lower Bands.

Our focus on explicit teaching and discipline literacy, coupled with the opportunity for students to access a broad curriculum, has ensured continued year on year improvement in student achievement. The success of our students is testament to the expertise and diligence of our staff, working collaboratively with students to support them on their learning journey.

The below is from the media release from Jo Haylen MP, Member for Summer Hill:

These are outstanding results for students at three of our local high schools and I could not be prouder of this recognition. The hard work of students and teaching staff is an enormous source of pride for our inner west community... We are rebuilding public education in, setting high expectations for our schools and students across the board, to ensure students aim high and work hard to meet their potential”. 27 March 2025
