Marrickville High School offers a range of extracurricular music ensembles for students.

  • Annual Fee: The first ensemble a student enrols into costs $400, covering weekly rehearsals led by an experienced teacher.

  • Additional Ensembles: Students can join extra ensembles for $125 each (Please note that the Choir is a free ensemble and does not require enrolment in another ensemble).

If you are experiencing financial difficulties or need to discuss alternative payment arrangements, please contact us. Scholarships are available for eligible students.

Guitar Ensemble
Program Outline Guitar Ensemble is a new program focused on developing guitar technique and playing arrangements of contemporary music. It is a free group open to all guitarists interested in improving their skills and ensemble playing.
Rehearsals Wednesday mornings, 8:00–8:40 AM, in Room 202 with Melissa Abdallah

Experience Open to Years 7–12, beginners and advanced players welcome
Private Tuition Encouraged but not required
Sheet Music Reading Not required, but advantageous

Jazz Band
Program Outline The Jazz Band provides a collaborative space for students to develop reading and improvisation skills through Swing, Latin, Soul, and Blues. This ensemble enhances technical skills, musicality, and performance experience. Students have performed at local festivals, talent shows, and venues like Lazybones and The Great Club.
Rehearsals Monday mornings, 8:00–8:45 AM, in Room 202 with Ms Barreca
Instruments Trumpet, Saxophone, Trombone, Flute, Clarinet, Guitar, Bass, Keys, Drums

Rock Band Program
Program Outline The Rock Band program at Marrickville High School is a long-established ensemble led by local musician Dylan Hartas. Each year group has its own rock band, learning a diverse range of rock songs. Bands perform at local festivals, talent shows, Carols nights, and venues such as Lazybones and The Great Club. Open to all students in Years 7–12, regardless of experience.
Rehearsals Scheduled at the start of the year and vary for each rock band.
Instruments Guitar, Bass, Piano, Drums, Vocals, Horns

Vocal Group
Program Outline Vocal Group is a new program focused on vocal technique and arrangements of contemporary music. It is a free group, open to all students interested in improving their singing technique and harmonisation skills.
Rehearsals Monday afternoons in Room 202 with Mr Clancy

Experience Open to Years 7–12, beginners and advanced singers welcome
