Visual Art Example

Learning Visual Arts gives students the chance to develop their creativity, imagination and ability to respond to the world around them. Through a variety of skills and approaches students make artworks using different media and materials and study artworks by Australian and overseas artists.

Elective art gives students the opportunity to expand their skills, confidence and ideas in making artworks as well as talking and writing about artists and artworks. The art making process gives students a special means of expression and communication. It develops their ability to see, think and feel. In elective art students use a variety of materials and techniques such as drawing, painting, sculpture, graphics, photography and ceramics.

Students use a Visual Arts Process Diary to record their ideas, opinions, observations and experiments that will lead up to making major works. Their study of other artists' work will be connected to their making in Art. Students will also learn how to study artworks and artists using art history and art criticism. Excursions to art galleries and exhibitions are included as part of this course.

Visual Arts is for those students who enjoy observing, expressing and commenting on the world around them by making artworks, images and designs. It develops their own personal creativity and self-expression.
