We are proud to share that Max A, a Year 12 Visual Arts student at Marrickville High School, has been named one of 30 Finalists in this year’s prestigious Lester Prize Youth Awards.
Max’s self-portrait, Hopeful prosperity, was painted in the lead-up to his HSC Visual Arts committments and reflects a deeply personal moment. In an interview with The Lester Prize Youth Awards, Max shared:
“Art to me is about twisting rules and expressing life visually. The reference photo of myself was taken the night before my art exam where I randomly took a photo of myself cross legged to really capture the moment of hopeful prosperity for the next day. A relaxed state of me is present as I try and pause time for a moment looking only forward. This was my way of escaping from stress.”
Marrickville High School has a strong Visual Arts program that nurtures individual talent and creative expression. Max’s achievement is a reflection of both his dedication and the supportive environment cultivated by our staff.
Max’s work will be exhibited as part of The Lester Prize for Portraiture Youth Awards from Friday 2 May to Sunday 20 July at the WA Museum Boola Bardip.
